The book presents the history of Piazza San Carlo in Turin, the old Piazza Reale, established in urbanistic terms by Carlo di Castellamonte, with the construction of the two imposing opposite fronts, and further on enriched by the work of Benedetto Alfieri in 18th century. A painstaking process of piecing together and mediation, laid the foundations for a most worthy project: the unitary restoration of the 17th century fronts on the square and a restudy of the colours. The chronicle of this restoration records how the project evolved and describes the events that led up to it.
